Bruning Homes

St. Louis, MO

While the European design of this 11,000-sq-ft residence pays homage to a grand English tradition, it took the exceptional skills of the masonry contractor to bring the home to life. The greatest challenge for the Spencer Brickwork team was to blend its myriad details to create the look and feel of traditional English architecture. The exterior is predominantly a mix of two stones, Garvey and Beaver Dam—244 tons in all. A custom mortar color was created specifically for this project. The English-style cut stone surrounds weighed up to 900 lbs, creating problems in their setting. The cut stone barrel arch entry also presented a challenge due to the tight working area. Other masonry features of this exquisite home include four chimneys, six fireplaces and heavy stone arches in the wine room.
