Iowa State Bank & Trust
West Liberty, IA
Brick and limestone were selected for this new branch bank’s design to echo materials found throughout the historic architecture of this downtown neighborhood. The building incorporates a bantered base derived from the town’s Carnegie library. A rolled edge brick offers a nod to the town’s heritage. The brick was laid in a standard ½ running bond with standard mortar. Other materials used in the design include cast stone accents and chimney; sand blasted, cast-in-place columns with a special limestone aggregate; glue-lam beams; and large expanses of glass. The blending of traditional masonry materials with more contemporary materials creates a comfortable integration of classic and high-tech design in this rural community. Inside, the open lobby is anchored on one end by a limestone fireplace that has become the focal point in the adjacent conference room.
