Livonia Mayor Jack Kirksey challenged architects bidding on the community recreation center to design a ‘WOW’ facility that would entice young families to move into the older community. Neumann/Smith & Associates rose to the occasion with an award winning masonry design. Siting of the building is dramatically askew. The north wall, offset several times focusing light to the interior, is articulated with a bold diagonal chevron pattern of contrasting color which has become a signature mark for the building and its signage. The chevron wall extends to the corner as a striking geometric brick arch.
