Portland State University NW Center for Engineering, Science and Technology
Portland, OR
The Northwest Center for Engineering, Science, and Technology is the new central hub for the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University. The building houses the dean’s offices and provides new laboratories, office and classrooms for the civil, mechanical and systems engineering departments. Visible expressions of the building’s function recur throughout its architecture and engineering in an effort to create a living laboratory of sustainable practices and building technology for the college. The building is comprised of two five-story volumes that divide the building into office and laboratory functions, each of which is distinguished by a brick masonry veneer system. Brick masonry was selected for its enduring qualities, and to relate to other historic buildings on campus. The Amber Rose color was selected for its diverse range of subtle colors which distinguish the façade.
