St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church and Community Center
Troy, MI
The use of masonry in this church takes its cues from historic traditional churches found in Egypt. Coptic Orthodox architecture creates a blend of geometric forms and patterns. Layering of the architecture allows for a strong play of sun and shadow on the masonry surfaces. The church is detailed with multiple colors of brick, creating bands of colors and textures. Additional architectural details include inserts of precast concrete emblems and copings, limestone accents and sills, and glass block. The focal point of the complex is the 75’ bell tower constructed of masonry and copper. It symbolizes the character of the Coptic Orthodox Church within the local community.
