Wilsonville City Hall
Wilsonville, OR
Brick masonry is the defining visual element of the new two-story, 30,000-sq-ft Wilsonville City Hall. Inspired by the historic Carnegie Libraries, this building is a contemporary iteration of an iconic design that dates back to the turn of the century. It is a classic example of civic architecture meant to emulate the strength and dignity of government. When illuminated at night, the council chambers are visible to passersby, acting as a beacon of democracy in action for the community. Simple details bring a richness to the elevations, while the traditional design and materials convey a feeling of permanence and stability. The standard shape and color of the brick continues the traditional theme. Old Towne Red recalls the classic red brick library, the embodiment of a model civic building. A darker grout binds the Ebony brick at the top of the building, beneath the metal parapet. This consideration emphasizes the cohesiveness of the monolithic band. Designed to accommodate a significant phased expansion, the Wilsonville City Hall is intended as a community landmark for many years to come. It presents a modern example of the importance and suitability of brick masonry in successful civic design.
