Who Is MasonrySystems.Org?

MasonrySystems.Org is the brainchild of the Masonry Executives Council (MEC), a coalition of professionals from more than two dozen masonry associations. Our goal is to provide a unified source of inspiration and information about masonry design and construction. By working together, we’re striving to make it easier for architects, engineers, developers, school boards, and city officials to choose to use masonry for their buildings. His consulting engineering firm specializes in masonry materials and structures. Michael is an expert in the structural behavior, evaluation and repair of masonry buildings; he has over 70 publications on this subject and is co-author of a book entitled “Nondestructive Evaluation and Testing of Masonry Structures.” He has taught Masonry Structural Design at the University of Colorado since 2000, and was inducted as a Fellow of The Masonry Society in 2007. Diane Travis, LEED AP

Technical Director, Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute, Denver, CO – www.rmmi.org Ms. Travis serves as a technical advisor and content reviewer to MasonrySystems.Org. Diane’s background as a teacher and an architect prepared her well for her role as masonry industry advisor, troubleshooter, and lecturer. In addition to fielding nearly 2,500 technical calls each year from design professionals and contractors, Diane conducts the Institute’s outreach services, including: masonry design presentations to architects; informal job site consultations; reviews of conceptual and detail drawings; and development of periodic literature and case studies. Diane received her Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago, 1985. In 1989, she became a registered architect in Illinois.

Charles (Chuck) Ostrander, PE

Executive Director, Illinois Masonry Institute/Masonry Advisory Council, Chicago, IL – www.maconline.org MasonrySystems.Org is grateful to Mr. Ostrander and his association for their significant content contributions to the site. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Chuck is a registered professional engineer and has worked to promote the use and understanding of masonry for the past 30 years. He is also a founding member of the Masonry Society and a past director in the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois. You can often find Chuck guest lecturing at area universities, including the University of Notre Dame Architectural School, University of Illinois Architectural School, the Illinois Institute of Technology Architectural School, and Valparaiso University Engineering College.
